Southeast Missouri State University ($1,000.00) This grant provided support for undergraduate voice majors to attend and participate in the Central Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference and Student Auditions, held at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA.
NEA: Arts Engagement in Communities 2013-14
Audience development and appreciation of Die Zauberflöte by Mozart. The project will develop and combine projected colorful graphic images, projected supertitles, and scenic and costume elements designed with simple yet striking visual themes. The opera will be presented with orchestra in a long version for the general public and a short, interactive, matinee version for area school students. ($10,000)

Title: Art/Song: A Study of the Use of Images to Enhance the Understanding of 20th Century Art Song
This project developed the use of visual materials to be used in conjunction with a live presentation of 20th century art song. Slides or other electronic media were projected during a presentation of the songs. The art work was selected to enhance the understanding and artistic appreciation of this genre.

Interactive Accompaniment Systems in Voice Instruction
Study of the use of the Vivace Intelligent Accompanist System in lesson preparation. This is an interactive electronic accompaniment system which allows the user to change tempo and key and other performance parameters to enhance learning and practicing. Observation indicated that the Vivace Intelligent Accompanist System (now called SmartMusic) system was particularly useful in assisting high risk students.

Interactive Audio and Video Techniques in Voice Instruction
A study of the effect of using audio and video technology in voice instruction on a regular basis. The study showed that the students who used audio and video monitors and tape recordings regularly improved more than those who received traditional instruction with no electronic aids.
